Third International Day of Awareness on Food Waste and Food Losses

Yesterday, Thursday September 29th 2022, marked the third International Food Waste and Food Loss Awareness Day.  The concepts of Food Waste and Food Loss are essential and have become increasingly important: food loss and food waste, which take place throughout the supply chain from production and at the point of consumption and post-consumption, respectively, cause great environmental and economic damage, not to mention the ethical issues concerning this phenomenon.

An eye on food waste in 2022

Food waste is defined as the phenomenon of losing food products that are still edible. This has strong impacts on several spheres: it affects the environment, energy, economics and not least ethics. The most recent studies that attempt to calculate its impact are divided by dividing the concept of food waste into two parts, according to the stage in the production and consumption chain at which it occurs.
