1. Waste prevention and management
   • Directive 2008/98 / EC on waste and repealing some directives
     The Directive establishes measures to protect the environment and human health by preventing or reducing the negative impacts of production and waste management, reducing the overall impacts of resource use and improving its effectiveness.
   • Directorial Decree of the Ministry of the Environment 7 October 2013
     It defines the National Waste Prevention Program (PNPR), which includes specific waste prevention and waste reduction targets to be achieved by 2020.
   • Piedmont Region Law 10 January 2018, n. 1
     This law regulates the regional planning tools and the organization of the integrated waste management service.
2. Circular economy

   The Package, approved in May 2018, includes four Directives whose main objective is to help citizens produce less waste and, when this is not possible, to substantially increase the recycling of urban waste and packaging waste. The package provides for the gradual reduction of the use of landfills; it also strengthens the "Waste Hierarchy", requiring Member States to adopt specific measures that give priority to prevention, re-use and recycling with respect to landfill disposal and incineration, thus making the circular economy a reality.

3. Food waste
   • Directive 2008/98 / EC on waste and repealing some directives (file pdf 158 KB)
     This Directive provides that environmental policy programs for waste reduction also include activities for the reduction of food waste.
   • Resolution of the European Parliament of 19 January 2012
     It contains indications on how to avoid food waste along the food chain in Europe.
   • Law of 25 June 2003, n. 155 (Law of the "Good Samaritan")
     The Law equates the non-profit organizations, which carry out free distribution of recovered food to the needy, to final consumers.
   • Law 3 April 2006, n. 152 and s.m.i. - Environmental regulations; (Part Four - Title I)
     This Decree sets specific rules on waste management, including those deriving from the production of food.
   • Directorial Decree of the Ministry of the Environment 7 October 2013
     Provides that, in implementation of the National Waste Prevention Program, the National Plan for the Prevention of Food Waste (PINPAS) has also been approved.
   • Law of 19 August 2016, n. 166 (Gadda Law)
     It contains simplification measures for the free transfer of food for the purpose of social solidarity and for limiting food waste.
   • Piedmont Region Law of 23 June 2015, n. 12
     With this law the Region promotes and supports projects and activities for the recovery, enhancement and distribution of unsold goods, in order to develop a sustainable consumption culture.
4. Organic waste recovery
   • 2003/2003 EC Regulation
     The regulation applies to products placed on the market as fertilizers bearing the indication "EC fertilizer".
