EWWR 2023 has started! A first look at its launch

On 18 November, the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR 2023), now in its fifteenth edition, began.
It will involve, as usual, many actors from different categories, in a single international awareness campaign: citizens, public administrations, companies, associations and schools, common focus on the environmental issues of waste reduction as well as their proper management.
The actions that will be carried out during the week (18-26 November) this year reached 14,522, and will mainly focus on waste reduction, but also on reuse, repair, proper recycling and clean-up actions.
Italy has recorded 4,744 actions, which confirm that the country is one of the most active in the initiatives for EWWR.
The thematic focus is, for the second time, on raising awareness of the strong environmental impact that packaging has, already a thematic focus in 2016. However, this topic has not gone out of fashion but is still fundamental, especially considering the growth of online shopping and the takeaway phenomenon.

Città Metropolitana di Torino participates with the initiative "Questions on waste reduction? Ask us!": within the Corso Inghilterra building, for employees only, an exchange place has been set up where employees can bring and/or take a cup to use at the coffee machines, equipped with a sensor, replacing the disposable glass. The action is aimed at recognizing the importance of the reduction of disposable packaging, and reuse, both within in the workplace and in everyday life. This action also provides for moments of deepening and raising awareness on waste reduction, reuse, and any doubts about proper separate collection.

The EWWR also invites all citizens to participate in the week with a small action: sharing on social media (Facebook and Instagram) photos of the good practices implemented in daily life to encourage the reduction of waste, accompanied by a brief explanation, or photos of the packaging resulting from their purchases, telling their observations.
By involving the community in discussion and action, it will be easier to raise awareness of positive changes towards a circular economy.
