On Tuesday 28 March, the award ceremonies for the winning actions of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) 2022 will be held in Rome (Via Quattro Novembre 149).

The fourteenth edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction was held in November 2022, with the thematic focus "circular and sustainable textiles". The thematic choice was made to raise awareness and inform a wide public about the environmental impact of the textile sector and the generation and management of waste from our clothing consumption habits. As many as 5,778 actions were carried out in Italy in this edition, concentrated in the week from 21 to 27 November, registering a marked improvement in participation compared to previous years.

The EWWR National Promoting Committee, coordinated by AICA (International Association for Environmental Communication) was called upon to select three deserving finalist actions for each of the 5 categories. Legambiente, Utilitalia, CNI UNESCO, Città metropolitana di Torino, Regione Siciliana, ANCI, Federconsumatori Lazio and E.R.I.C.A soc. coop. nominated the candidates this week.

The finalist actions are:

A special mention should be made of the “Abiti in circolo” initiative promoted by the Rete by Imprese Corona Nord Ovest, composed by Gruppo Cidiu, Acsel Spa, SCS, and SIA. The action that has reached its final stages is an example of how the territory of the Città Metropolitana di Torino is always at the forefront of environmental issues. The action consisted of several initiatives, including a communication campaign and an extraordinary collection of clothes in market squares. During the same week, the four companies implemented a new home collection service for used clothes, with reservations, intended to make the collection of clothing, accessories and shoes in large quantities an accessible and stable service for citizens.
