Coronavirus: correct disposal of masks and gloves is essential, also to protect the environment.

The Covid-19 pandemic is causing an exponential increase in the use of disposable masks and gloves. According to some projections between now and the end of the year we will have consumed at least 1 billion and 200 million masks, only in Italy. Given the huge amount of this waste, it is necessary to pay more attention than usual to their correct collection which often, we are told, are instead abandoned on the sidewalks, on the roadsides and also in waterways. This uncivilized behavior can cause serious pollution phenomena of the natural environment and in particular of the waters with the consequence of a dramatic increase in marine littering, i.e. the presence of waste in the seas, especially of microplastics. We remind you that disposable gloves, masks, handkerchiefs and wipes are currently unrecoverable waste and once disposed of, they must be disposed of in the unsorted collection, taking into account, however, the indications of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità both in the case of positive swab or in mandatory quarantine than for all other subjects. Pleas follow these simple rules, it is important! Thank you.
