New sustainable solutions in Turin: Rivestito and Traccia-TO, transforming textile and electronic waste

On 16 October 2024, a press conference was held by the municipality of Turin at Palazzo Civico, to present the Rivestito and Traccia-TO projects. The two ideas are the winners of the call for tenders launched by ANCI Toscana within the Climaborough project, financed by the European Union and CINEA, whose objective is to reduce the gap between the design and implementation phases of innovations aimed at promoting the circular economy.

Chiara Foglietta (Councillor for Ecological and Digital Transition), Matteo Satta (Scientific Coordinator of Climaborough, from Anci Toscana) and Paola Bragantini (President of Amiat Gruppo Iren) opened the conference emphasising the importance of the active participation of citizens in the green transition, which can take place through small daily gestures.

After this introductory part, Nadia Lambiase and Elena Ferrero, directors respectively of Mercato Circolare and Atelier Riforma, presented the first project, Rivestito.

These two realities, with the partnership of Huulke, aim to improve the collection of discarded textiles in the city of Turin and intercept them before they are directed outside our country, causing a negative impact both socially and environmentally. For all those defective textiles that remain unsold, are no longer used or are discarded during processing, it is necessary to open up experimental corridors, involving the community and promoting the use of new technologies that can encourage reuse practices. To this end, Re4circular was conceived. It consists in a platform connecting the world of post-consumer textile collection and management and the world of circular fashion.

From the collaboration of Erion, E.R.I.C.A and Re-learn comes the second experiment presented during the press conference, called Traccia-TO. The project will be developed in the San Salvario district with the aim of defining methodologies to improve the collection of textile and WEEE waste and to be able to replicate the proposed method in other districts of the city.

Turin will share the results of the experiments with all the cities involved in Climaborough and at the same time receive those on the topic of urban mobility and energy in order to activate a virtuous exchange of innovative solutions and good practices.
