The initiative in Metropolitan City of Turin on the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction

The thirteenth edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) will take place from Noveber 20 to the 28th: this year the chosen theme is "Circular Communities".

The EWWR initiative stems from the LIFE + program to raise awareness of stakeholders, consumers, local authorities and institutions on the methods and policies outlined by the European Union aimed at reducing waste production.

This year’s theme is intended to be a collective and organized response to reduce waste; a shared responsibility that can be achieved through the creation of "Circular Communities".

On the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), the Planning and Control Office of the Integrated Waste Cycle of the Metropolitan City of Turin will start a timely collection of used vegetable oils, small WEEE and aluminum capsules for coffee.

From Monday 22nd to Friday 26th November, at the headquarters in Corso Inghilterra 7, it will be possible for employees to deliver this type of waste.

The choice to collect these specific fractions is dictated by the fact that in most cases they are incorrectly disposed of, causing a scarce interception of fractions that could be strongly enhanced by the recycling process.

Waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is composed of a multitude of materials, including rare raw materials and metals which, if not correctly disposed of, are highly polluting, but recycled, allow almost all materials to be recovered, avoiding the new extraction of these raw materials in third countries.

Exhausted vegetable oils, those used for cooking or preserving food, are normally, incorrectly, poured down the drain, increasing water pollution and damaging the purification systems. Correct delivery, in addition to avoiding these damages, also allows them to be recovered for new products.

For aluminum coffee capsules, the dual composition of coffee and aluminum does not make them suitable for delivery either with the organic fraction nor with metals: a dedicated collection allows the separation of the two materials and their recycling.
