ANCI and Ministry of the Environment allies against food waste: the website dedicated to the Project is online.

Food waste, as we have often remembered from the pages of our site, is a global phenomenon which, it is estimated, determines the disposal of about 1/3 of all food produced annually and intended for human consumption. There are many causes and devastating impacts on the environment and society. In Italy, despite the great flourishing of many and often laudable initiatives, there are still no coordinated information and education plans on food behavior and waste behavior, as well as agreements between the players in the food and restaurant supply chain; therefore, sometimes the actions aimed at containing food waste are fragmented and not very incisive. ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities) and the Ministry of the Environment had already signed, in 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding, followed in 2018 by an implementing Agreement aimed at the implementation and development of actions to support Municipalities. The actions foreseen by the Agreement are developed on 4 thematic areas which, in turn, are divided into specific sub-actions:
1) Prevention of food waste in school catering
2) Prevention of food waste in commercial catering
3) Measurement of waste avoided through the use of doggy / family bags
4) Drafting of operational notebooks (for commercial operators and restaurateurs)

The Progetto website has been online for a few days, which provides detailed information on the planned activities, makes the materials and further documents elaborated within the project activities available, promotes and makes available the materials of the national campaign on the spread of “food -bag ”in commercial catering.
