THE 2021 EUROPEAN WEEK FOR THE REDUCTION OF WASTE PRODUCTION - THE TOPIC FOR THE NEXT EDITION HAS BEEN UNVEILED

From November 20th till 28th the European Week for the reduction of waste production will take place for its 13th edition, and this year the chosen topic will be on “Circular communities”.It has been announced by the promoter commitee of this event, composed by CNI Unesco, The Ecologic Trasition Ministry, ANCI, Sicilian Region, The Metropolitan City of Turin, Utilitalia, Legambiente and AICA, with E.R.I.C.A. Soc. Coop. As technic partner.
This initiative borns from the LIFE + program in order to raise the awareness of stakeholders, consumers, local entities and institutions  on European Union methods and policies with the purpose to reduce waste production.

This year’s topic starts from the argument that, in order to react to the issue of excessive waste production , an organized and collective response is necessary, for a shared responsibility toward the creation of the so-called “Circular Community”. The purpose of this initiative is the promotion of socio-environmental ties  within local communities, boosting a kind of  development that is characterized by circularity.
Among the actions promoted by this initiative that will be proposed we find:
- urban gardens, to share spaces and to reduce wastages and  packaging-derived wastes;
- Shared stocks for the collective use of little objects and household appliances;
- Virtuous chains of sharing regarding second-hand clothes or food that otherwise it should be discarded;
- Little mantainance services for damaged goods in order to enhance individual capacity and skills.

Like the previous years, this initiative has been institutionally  recognized  by the Ministry of Ecological Transition . Its growing success in Italy has brought to almost 3500 registered sustainable actions during the last year, making our country the one with the highest number of this kind of actions in Europe.

Also for this year, the objective will be to involve as much is possible local entities, the third sector, school and University, private actors, cathegory associations and individual citizens.

Additional informations on this initiative and on the modalities of participation can be found in the official Facebook page of the event  or writing to serr@envi.info.
