In a significant move to counter the widespread phenomenon of "greenwashing," the European Parliament has recently approved a directive aimed at ending deceptive business practices and promoting environmental responsibility by companies. Greenwashing, an increasingly prevalent marketing strategy, sees numerous companies, especially multinational corporations, portraying their activities as eco-friendly without making substantial changes to sustainability throughout the entire production and distribution chain.

The festivities, in Italy above all, are accompanied by lunches and dinners, protagonists of these days; unfortunately it is also the period in which the highest peaks of waste are recorded. Below there is a series of actions aimed at reducing food waste during the holidays, but also in everyday life.

On 18 November, the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR 2023), now in its fifteenth edition, began.
It will involve, as usual, many actors from different categories, in a single international awareness campaign: citizens, public administrations, companies, associations and schools, common focus on the environmental issues of waste reduction as well as their proper management.
At the same time as the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR, 18-26 November 2023), whose focus for this year’s initiatives is the reduction of packaging, in sharp contrast there will also be Black Friday, the event that generates the highest rate of packaging waste of the entire year.

On 24 October 2023, the Environment Committee (ENVI) of the European Parliament approved by a majority of votes (56 in favour, 23 against and 5 abstentions) the proposal to amend the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. This will then be voted on in Parliament on the scheduled date of 20 November.
