How to reduce the environmental impact of food production?

Food production tends to be an unsustainable activity for the environment. This was stated in a five-year analysis conducted by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and just published in Nature Sustainability, the monthly online magazine dedicated to research on the sustainability of natural and social sciences. The study also identifies a package of solutions which, if applied, would ensure livelihood for more than 10 billion people. In addition to completely rethinking the food chain, the study suggests adopting specific policies to combat food waste, also through the education of producers and consumers.
