In Lombardy the "Spesa sballata" project starts: finally a new way of shopping?

Food spending, as we all know, is one of the critical moments in the production of household waste, especially plastic packaging. Bottles, trays, disposable bags and so on, which clog our homes. Who knows if, thanks to the start of the new project "Spesa Sballata", we will not succeed in Italy, too, in spreading widespread shopping experiences without packaging, thanks to the use of reusable containers. On the other hand, the same "Climate Decree", provides that customers are "allowed to use their own containers as long as they are reusable, clean and suitable for food use". All this will be possible in Varese and province with the "Spesa Sballata", a project that sees 33 families engaged in the purchase of food products using their own containers. Families will be able to shop at the supermarkets participating in the initiative using reusable containers (provided by the project and consisting of reusable rigid plastic containers, reusable bags for fruit and vegetables and a durable bag) at the assisted sales counters (bakery, fishmonger, delicatessen, butcher) of the supermarkets involved and also in the fruit and vegetables departments. The experiment, which started at the beginning of November 2020, will last until the end of April 2021 and will allow families to carefully monitor and measure the potential positive impact that the purchase of bulk products may have on the amount of disposable packaging waste produced by each household.
