Food waste, as we have often remembered from the pages of our site, is a global phenomenon which, it is estimated, determines the disposal of about 1/3 of all food produced annually and intended for human consumption. There are many causes and devastating impacts on the environment and society.

The "100% plastic" international cooperation project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and started in April 2017 to ensure the reduction of environmental pollution in Ethiopia and the separate collection of plastic to be destined for recycling in a local plant, has come to an end. The Metropolitan City of Turin participated in the quality of the partner, dealing specifically with Corintea soc.

Over the years our organization, which has always been particularly sensitive to the issue of fighting food waste, has promoted local initiatives, studies and research, also hosting university students and supporting them in their degree and master's theses. With great pride we therefore want to communicate that the thesis of Dr. Arianna Pia Santoro entitled "The Gadda law as a tool to combat food waste.

The Atlante del cibo di Torino metropolitana brings together the main institutional players in the Turin area who are, for various reasons, active in the world of food and the policies that govern it. The Annual Report, an occasion for the dissemination of the research activities carried out during the year, will be presented via the web this year, between 30 June and 2 July 2020.

The Waste Observatory of the Metropolitan City of Turin has recently resumed its full activity, publishing the waste collection data for the first quarter of 2020 which, as is known, also coincided with the lock down from the Covid-19 pandemic. Every June 5th, since 1972, the World Environment Day has been celebrated. The event, established by the UN General Assembly on the occasion of the launch of the Environment Program and celebrated for the first time in 1974 with the slogan "Only One Earth", it is an opportunity to take stock of many of the aspects that affect our common home.

Phase 2 and the gradual return to activity in the offices are closely linked with the daily need to be able to manage a "topical" moment of the typical day of an employee: the lunch break. How can we combine this need with the need to reduce as much as possible the waste produced daily by each of us? Climate change scares as much as Covid-19: according to the Italians, action must be taken immediately to counter it.

On 22 April on the occasion of "Earth Day" (editor's note: see our News), the IPSOS institute published its usual survey on the perception of world citizens regarding the climate emergency. This year the survey opened with the question: "Do you think that climate change is as serious a crisis in the long run as COVID-19?". For 7 out of 10 respondents, the answer was yes.
